Touring Peru

Here is a synopsis of my week in Peru: I started in Miraflores (a tourist area in Lima) and stayed at Casa Andina Select, visited Barranco, then flew to Cusco and stayed at Kokopelli and Illa Hotel, hiked the Inca trail, saw Machu Picchu swallowed by clouds, ventured in Machu Picchu town (Aguas Calientes), hiked Machu Picchu and actually got to see it, and ended up back in Miraflores at the Casa Andina Select. One thing we consistently recognized was the effort on cleanliness and recycling no matter where we went, inside or outside. We hope Venezuela will catch on to this trend one day! We cheers to night one, when we had no idea how the week was going to go! Will joined us from Canada (friend of Sara and Mike's) and Amber joined us from Chicago (friend of Vicky's). Special Assembly and Harrow School Tour

It was a VERY special day at Roxeth; Our morning began with a visit from paralympian, Naomi Riches; She gave an amazing speech to our primary students about the way in which she got to be where she is today!! Naomi's vision is severely impaired, but she had the opportunity to be a part of the British rowing team back in 2001 (I think)! She let us take a picture with her, showing her most recent gold metal that she won in London 2012! It was much heavier than I expected! Then our head teacher wanted us to see Harrow School, so she set up a tour for us. It was such a rainy day, but the heart of Harrow showed through regardless. This is their theater; the children must try every kind of subject and sport their first year. Classroom Pictures + Trying to be Venezuelan

5th Grade. It may be challenging sometimes (most times), but I love it. I'm proud of the sense of community we've established; it still surprises me how much they step up and show me that they are capable of having genuine, mature discussions. Many of them are naturally motivated to succeed, and that inspires me to get the rest on the same page!  My largest goal is to push them to be independent thinkers and problem solvers by the time they go off to middle school next year.
