Gringa on the Go!

Sit back and relax-- I have a lot to catch you up on!

On October 24th I went to a 9-year-old's birthday party. And it was beyond amazing. Happy birthday Emmie! I could only hope that my parties could be this luxurious! I also started working with one of my students who is struggling with success in my class because of her language barrier. I work with her Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

One morning a few weeks ago she came to my desk with a note and a little box; the letter was written to let me know how much she appreciated me working with her and being patient. The box had a little bracelet inside. It warmed my heart to have received these gifts--it relieves the stress of the countless hours spent planning, preparing, and grading in the classroom and helps you remember why it is we work so hard in the first place.

Halloweekend included: Sam working hours with a few students to create our Halloween door display, a party in our classroom hosted by Linda and another student's mom, a halloween party at school, and a Halloween party hosted by another EBV teacher, Amy.

2 of my 5th graders-- They looked AWESOME! Would you believe they aren't even related?!

This is super terrifying! Another one of my 5th graders!

One of the best costumes of the night: The Todd's. In the middle is the superintendent of my school, Todd. On the left, is professional Todd, and on the right is Tennis Todd. Both with data in their hands to make the picture complete!!!

This costume turned out WAY better than expected!

My fifth grade team and students presented at our monthly assembly dressed as Secret Service to teach the rest of our school about the importance of service at EBV (the value of the month). The best part of the assembly was seeing the students get SO into character. We told them they needed to wear all black--but some of them came in with ear pieces and suits with ties. It was both precious and priceless.

This is their Secret Service position. We have trained them very well.

Other random life events: One night at school I watched my friend Kat get locked out of her room. Security was trying to break into her room--their success reached as far as taking off the door handle. LOL. Clearly Kat had given up on the door being opened as she sits back and watches. :D

This is Brother. He is just a year old and SUCH a sweetheart. He lives at the house of an 8th grader I tutor on Mondays and Wednesdays. I just love all over him when I see him! It also makes me miss my boys much more.

I am still going to the gym before school during the weekdays. I actually love it--It is such a calm and relaxing way to start the day.

Last weekend we had a spa day at Kristin's place. I was very happy with my choice of color and stamp--and it stayed on in good condition until today! I'm not sure what they do differently here, but my manicures last so much longer than when I get them done at home. It's great!

I also spent the entire past two weekends at school. How unbelievably exhausting it was. But I made a new bulletin board to jumpstart our Elements of Fiction unit on Winnie-the-Pooh. I worked really hard on these characters!!

I was having a really great hair day--until I walked outside. I had to take a selfie.

This past week I went to my first Zulia baseball game! The Aguilas (Eagles) were not very impressive but I was enlightened by the support that the fans gave even through many of their unfortunate plays. Going to such a public place made me realize how much us Gringas stand out. Spotted and visited at the top row by the team mascot, Agui, every person in the stadium knew where we were. We had an absolute blast. Agui spoke some English with us and was very curious to hear why we were in Zulia. His dance moves, which he displayed after he visited the Gringas, were on point.

This is Suzie. She is a wonderful human being.

This is Suzie and Eli.  :)

Watch the dance battle here:

Fast forward to 1 minute...

And last but not least... Here is a new rendition of Let it Go written by Kristin Vielma, Shauna McFaul and Nici Coulson; presented by myself, Mr. Tim Patton, and Mr. Michael Brougham to inspire middle school and high schoolers for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month--10,000 word story).
