Special Assembly and Harrow School Tour
It was a VERY special day at Roxeth; Our morning began with a visit from paralympian, Naomi Riches; She gave an amazing speech to our primary students about the way in which she got to be where she is today!! Naomi's vision is severely impaired, but she had the opportunity to be a part of the British rowing team back in 2001 (I think)! She let us take a picture with her, showing her most recent gold metal that she won in London 2012! It was much heavier than I expected!
Then our head teacher wanted us to see Harrow School, so she set up a tour for us. It was such a rainy day, but the heart of Harrow showed through regardless.
This is their theater; the children must try every kind of subject and sport their first year. In the theater, the children can put on anything they want including productions, concerts, discos, and debates.
Can you spot Winston Churchill's name?
This room is FAMOUS. It was the first room ever built, and for a long time it was the only classroom at Harrow. A scene from Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was shot in here as well.
This is the assembly hall, there are movies played every weekend, and they gather to sing the Harrow School songs; it fits 800, and 820 students attend the school, so it gets pretty tight!
A typical uniform ... They cannot have backpacks, they must carry all materials. They are also required to wear their hats on this main road (there are many exceptions to this rule though). Students have classes 6 days a week, and on Sunday they are required to go to Chapel no matter their religion. Students are allowed to go home every three weeks for the weekend.
The boys at the school seemed much more down to earth than the ones I saw at Eton College; Our tour guide had both of her sons go to Harrow. Although she's obviously a huge advocate, she described the school as being "like a prison" in many ways...
