Weekend Getaway in Otavalo

Just a couple-uh-teachers ready for the weekend to begin!

There were 7 of us that shared the cost of a little getaway an hour and a half outside of Quito in a town named Otavalo (a place I visited last year). We stayed in Casa Monica at San Juan de La Vega. The place has 3 different houses with a few bedrooms, a huge living area, a dining room, and a kitchen.

To prep for the weekend, each person was assigned a meal to cook: Britt and Ed decided on chicken curry for dinner Friday night. Ben and Priscila took on breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. Laura and I were in charge of lunch on Saturday. Finally, Brian was in charge of bringing snacks for the weekend.

Britt and Ed with their curry!

Gotta give mom credit for the chicken salad with grapes-- this has saved me on several occasions in this country. We also added some bacon which was a nice touch if I do say so myself! We also made a tuna salad and served it all with avocado hummus and fresh veggies!

Ben was extremely excited to play the newest version of Mario Party that came out on Friday, so he brought all of his gaming equipment. See that tiny screen on the table below? That's what we looked at when we played because Ben's HDMI cable couldn't connect to the huge screen TV. LOL. I never got myself to play Mario Party-- I think I am still scarred from playing with Rachel as a child since I ALWAYS lost.

We made s'mores by a fire outside. Marshmallow got all over my hands, and then obviously in my hair. UGH. I loved it anyway. The most of our time was spent by the fireplace in the living room to chat and keep warm.

I read quite a bit of my book through the weekend (as did the others), that I have found really difficult to do here in Quito lately. I pet the horses that hung out in the yard. I also took many pictures of the beautiful property around us.

We went to the infamous Otavalo market for a few hours on Saturday morning. I wanted to buy a blanket and a few "Otavalo sweaters". It was incredibly successful of course.

Overall it was a lazy weekend, but we did go for a short hike (that ended abruptly with the stopping of a trail). I also did yoga with Britt using a routine she made up.

Post Yoga...

And finally, we took part in helping make empanadas right before we left to come back to Quito.

Can't wait to see where more adventures take me this year!
Ciao for now!
