Setting the Scene...Part II
Hola mi amigos!
Just finished my second week of school. The students are hysterical, and very bright. I'm happy to finally move past teaching procedures and routines, and actually start teaching content! We are all exhausted. Thankfully I have a couch in my room. 4th grade was especially tired one day after school.
I started tutoring an 8th grader on Mondays and Wednesdays. I don't know why I haven't been a tutor before! She is super sweet, and her family is wonderful.
So far, I have celebrated two of my students' birthdays. Birthdays here are a BIG DEAL. Parents come in with gourmet cakes (trust me I can live with that) for the class to share, juice, soda, and if they were allowed, they would bring pizza. Their "Happy Birthday" song is way more exciting than ours! I need to get permission first, but if my parents say it's okay to post pictures/videos of their children, I would love to show you what I'm talking about.
A few days ago, during a birthday celebration one student came up to me and asked me if I was eating enough food. She told me I was WAY too skinny!!!! HAH! I'm working on getting a gym membership, so until then I really need to chill out on the sweets......but I have no self control. If cake is in my face, I can't say no. It is a constant problem here (or anywhere). I went to the park again on Thursday, where we had many more adventures, discovering rock climbing, bike rentals, and a go kart track. One of these may be in my future!
Last weekend a few of us went to a bar/restaurant called Paradiso, it was laidback and they had live music. Definitely a night to remember.
Here are a few pictures captured from our walk on Thursday!
The night was young.
I finally got my package! It took 3 weeks exactly from door to door. Now I have a nice big empty guest bed with sheets that needs someone to sleep in. My bathroom is also finished which I'm very excited about.
Friday night I went to the 1 year anniversary of Atte Cafe! A small payment got us a 9 course tapas style meal, with 5 drinks included. Oh my! We had a wonderful time.
Kat and Lauren!
Finally... What we were waiting for ALL night!!!
Vicki and Mike... :)
This great gang!
Yesterday morning we got up early to go to the market--fresh veggies and fruit is a staple in my life. The past few weekends I have slept through my alarm (shocker), but finally this morning I got up on time. Mr. Andres is our driver. He is actually an engineer but finding a job here is basically a joke. He is the most resourceful person I have met here YET. Mr. Andres cares so much about us and our safety; he goes out of his way to take us to the places we need to go.
I thought I bought squash.. But it was actually papaya!! Lol

That's all for now! I'll post again soon. :)
Love you all.
Ciao.
