At this great restaurant, we had a 4 euro glass of wine, and an ENDLESS free, multiple course buffet.

Last breakfast in Florence with a beautiful view (even though we went into a hotel buffet)





Last meal, how shocking that I ate pizza; but it was made with buffalo mozzarella and was so worth it!




And then our waitress folded my pizza in half like so, when I asked her if I could get it in a take away box. This happened before the cashier told me that she did not have any change (at 7:00 pm mind you) for my money. Interesting...

The weekend that past was a holiday here, Fiestas de Quito, and while everyone celebrated their traditions here, playing Cuarenta (a super competitive card game), eating hornado (pork) a traditional dish accompanied with avocado, mote (which is in the corn family), and llapingachos (potatoes), I flew to Colombia. Colombia is a place that people are afraid of. Many people think of Colombia as a place that still holds the reputation it had in the past, especially in the city I was in, Medellin. The truth is that it is a place that has clearly come a very long way from crime and drugs--not to say it doesn't exist--but I didn't feel threatened by either in the time I was there. The highlights of my trip (which was the whole trip) included exploring the metro from Poblado to Parque Arví, touring Guatapé (a giant rock about 2 hours from Medellin), Comuna 13 (a famous sector in Medellin), Candle Night (a religious celebration through the city), and seeing Parque Botero.  ...

Introduction to Venezuela: Week 1

Hello World! I know there are so many people wondering what in the world I'm doing in South America. Well, I made a promise to myself after I studied abroad that, before I "settle down", I will teach abroad.  So... Because of my unbelievably supportive boyfriend Seth and my family who are worried every minute of the day--and I'm sure even in the middle of the night, I have taken a 5th grade teaching position at Escuela Bella Vista (EBV), an IB American school in Maracaibo, Venezuela. In the middle of my first year of teaching as an ESOL teacher, I applied to all of the international schools that offered positions through my account on ISS. I took this job because of two teachers who have been working at EBV for 5 years.
